Where to study engineering and IT
- KTU, Kaunas: the widest choice of engineering in English, a flat ₹4.5 lakh (€4,201) for most bachelor's.
- VILNIUS TECH, Vilnius: civil, mechanical, automotive and aviation engineering, AI and IT; merit waivers from 70% marks.
- Vilnius University: informatics, software engineering, data science, cyber security and lasers.
- Klaipėda University: marine, mechanical and electrical engineering by the port.
- Colleges: VIKO, Kauno kolegija, Vilnius Business College, SMK and Šiauliai State UAS for three-year degrees in software, cyber security and electrical systems.
Smaller engineering fields
Some branches are taught in English at only one or two institutions, so they do not have a separate page:
- Aviation and aerospace: KTU (Aviation Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering master's) and VILNIUS TECH (Aviation Mechanics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering master's, taught at its aviation institute).
- Chemical engineering: KTU (Chemical Technology and Engineering, Applied Chemistry) and Klaipėda University (Chemical Engineering for environment and energy).
- Biomedical engineering: KTU (Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics) and VILNIUS TECH (Medical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering).
- Environmental engineering: KTU and VILNIUS TECH.
- Renewable energy: KTU (Renewable Energy Engineering, Energy Technologies and Economics) and VMU (Sustainable Energy).
- Marine and port engineering: Klaipėda University only.
- Lasers and photonics: Vilnius University and KTU; see natural sciences.
- Architecture: KTU and VILNIUS TECH, five-year integrated programmes; see creative fields.
Entry for Indian students
Bachelor's programmes want Class 12 with mathematics and physics, usually at least 60% in each; KTU also requires above 60% in a science or IT subject. Master's programmes want a related B.Tech, B.E. or B.Sc.; VILNIUS TECH accepts only B.Tech or B.E. from India. JEE is not required. See requirements for Indian students.
Jobs
IT is the field where Lithuania hires most foreigners in English: software development, testing, data, cyber security and IT support, mostly in Vilnius and Kaunas. Engineering jobs in manufacturing, electronics and lasers exist in Kaunas and Vilnius, but more of them expect Lithuanian over time. After graduating you get a 12-month permit to look for work; see after graduation.
