What you study
A software engineering degree covers programming, object-oriented design, data structures, databases, web and mobile development, testing, DevOps and project work in teams. College programmes (VIKO, Kauno kolegija, SMK, Vilnius Business College) are built around practice: a long internship in the final year and projects with local companies. Vilnius University adds more theory, mathematics and research.

Choosing between a college and a university
- College (professional bachelor's): three to three and a half years, ₹3.3–4.8 lakh (€3,100–4,500) a year, practical, aimed at a developer job. You can continue to a master's later.
- Vilnius University bachelor's: three and a half years, ₹4.8 lakh (€4,560), stronger in computer science foundations.
- Master's: Vilnius University (₹6.4 lakh (€6,000)) or VILNIUS TECH's Information Systems Software Engineering (₹6.9 lakh (€6,450)), two years.
Admission for Indian students
Class 12 with mathematics; Vilnius Business College asks for 70% in mathematics and English for its IT programmes. VIKO tests every applicant in English and mathematics itself and accepts only direct applications. For master's, a B.Tech or B.E. in computer science or IT is the safest background. See admission.
Career and salaries
Junior developer, QA and support roles are the usual first jobs. Lithuania's average gross pay was ₹2.8 lakh (€2,628.20) a month in mid-2026; experienced developers earn above it, graduates usually start below. Many students begin with part-time work in the third year: from 22 May 2026 first- and second-year bachelor's students may work up to 20 hours a week. Read work while studying.
Recognition in India
A professional bachelor's from a Lithuanian state college is a full bachelor's degree in the EU framework. Indian IT employers generally accept it as is; for government jobs or Indian postgraduate admission, an AIU equivalence certificate may be needed.
