Why Klaipėda University
If you want to work with ships, ports or the sea, this is the Lithuanian university to look at. Klaipėda has the country's only port and its maritime industry, and the university's Marine Research Institute and engineering faculty work closely with both. Marine Transport Engineering, Shipping and Port Engineering and Physical Geography and Oceanography are taught here in English; no other university on our list offers them.
Two other things help Indian applicants: a spring intake for some programmes, which suits students who miss the summer deadlines, and a written promise to refund tuition if the permit is refused.

Costs
Tuition is ₹3.5 lakh (€3,250) a year for social sciences and humanities and ₹4.5 lakh (€4,201) for engineering, health and informatics. You pay it on acceptance, after which the university sends the formal acceptance letter you need for the residence permit.
The university dormitory asks for a deposit (₹15,900 (€150) or ₹21,300 (€200)) and the whole semester's rent before you move in. Klaipėda is cheaper than Vilnius, especially for private rooms; see cost of living.
Scholarships
We found no scholarship at Klaipėda University aimed at students from India. Ask the admissions office whether any first-year fee reduction applies to your programme, and look at our scholarships page for national options.
Careers
Marine and mechanical engineers can find work at Klaipėda's shipyards, the port authority, stevedoring and logistics companies and the free economic zone's manufacturers. Physiotherapy and public-health graduates usually need Lithuanian to work with patients. More in after graduation.
How Indian students apply
- Submit the online application with your Class 12 mark sheet (CGPA above 60%) or degree, apostilled and translated, and pay the ₹19,100 (€180) fee.
- Show English at B2: IELTS above 5.5, TOEFL above 75, Duolingo above 110 or PTE above 59. These thresholds come from the university's summary; confirm them for your programme.
- If shortlisted, take the online interview. Master's applicants add two references and a motivation letter.
- Pay the tuition to receive the formal letter of acceptance, then apply for the residence permit.

Life in Klaipėda
Klaipėda is a port city of about 160,000 people, with a sandy coast and the Curonian Spit across the lagoon. It is quieter than Vilnius or Kaunas, and the Indian community is small, so expect to cook more for yourself. Read studying in Klaipėda.
