What you study
Bachelor's programmes start with mathematics, algorithms, programming in C, Java or Python, databases, operating systems and networks, then let you specialise in software, information systems, embedded systems or data. Lithuanian programmes are hands-on: team projects with companies are common from the second year. Master's degrees go deeper into AI, distributed systems, information-systems management or computer engineering.
Degrees and duration
- University bachelor's: four years (240 ECTS) at KTU, VILNIUS TECH, VMU and Klaipėda University.
- Professional bachelor's: three years at Šiauliai State UAS and Klaipėda State UAS.
- Master's: one and a half to two years.

Admission for Indian students
For a bachelor's, Class 12 with mathematics, usually 60% or more; KTU also wants above 60% in a science or IT subject. For a master's, a B.Tech, B.E., B.Sc. in computer science or BCA, depending on the university. VILNIUS TECH accepts only B.Tech/B.E. from India and runs a recorded interview; Vilnius University asks for IELTS 6.5. See requirements for Indian students.
Career and salaries
Software developers, QA engineers, data and cloud specialists are the roles Lithuanian employers most often fill with foreigners. According to the State Data Agency, average gross pay across the whole economy was ₹2.8 lakh (€2,628.20) a month in the second quarter of 2026, and IT is one of the sectors paying above that average. Starting salaries for graduates are lower, and a junior role may take months to find, so internships during your studies count.
Recognition in India
A Lithuanian bachelor's or master's in informatics is a recognised EU degree. For government jobs or further study in India, apply to the Association of Indian Universities for an equivalence certificate. Private IT employers in India rarely ask for one.
