Physics, lasers and food science
Physics in English is taught at only two universities, so it has no separate page. Vilnius University has the larger offer: Laser Physics and Optical Technologies, Laser Technology, Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics, Biophysics, Chemical Physics, Photonics and Nanotechnology, the EuroPhotonics joint master's and a Light Engineering (Lasers) bachelor's. KTU teaches Materials Physics and Nanotechnologies, Engineering Physics and Materials Physics. Food science is offered at KTU (Food Science and Technology, Food Science and Nutrition) and LSMU (Food Science).
Where to study
Vilnius University is the main science university, with faculties in the Saulėtekis valley next to research centres in life sciences, physics and chemistry. VMU covers biology, environmental science and agronomy; KTU applied mathematics, chemistry and materials; Klaipėda University oceanography and physical geography.
Careers
Lithuania's laser, biotech and chemistry companies hire graduates, though often after a master's or PhD. Mathematics and statistics graduates move easily into data and finance roles. For research careers, a funded PhD in Lithuania or elsewhere in Europe is the usual next step.
