Doctoral programmes in English
KTU lists 21 doctoral programmes in English, from physics and chemistry to economics and education; VILNIUS TECH 17 in engineering, management and communication; Vilnius University, VMU, MRU and LSU several each. Doctoral programmes are run by a university, often together with research institutes, so the topic and supervisor matter more than the programme name.
How to apply
- Find a research area and a potential supervisor; email them with your CV and a short research idea.
- Apply in the university's doctoral admission round, usually in early summer for an autumn start; KTU's deadlines for 2026 were mostly mid-June.
- Submit a master's degree certificate, transcript, research proposal, references and English proof.
- Present your proposal to the admission committee, often online.
- On a funded place, sign the agreement and apply for the residence permit; doctoral students get a three-year initial permit.
