How it works
- Doctoral places are funded by the state and awarded through each university's admission competition.
- A funded place means no tuition and a monthly scholarship for the four years of full-time study.
- The scholarship increases after the first year, according to the national regulation.
- Many doctoral students also work on funded research projects or teach, which adds income.
Getting a funded place from India
Contact a supervisor before applying, prepare a research proposal that fits the department's projects, and apply in the summer admission round. Competition is strongest in popular fields; laser physics, materials, biotechnology and engineering have regular international intake. See PhD in Lithuania.
Living on the stipend
Compare the current stipend with the living costs on our cost of living page and with the proof of funds required for the residence permit. Doctoral students receive a three-year initial permit.
