Applied health professions
Nursing, physiotherapy, dental hygiene and public health are taught in English at both universities and colleges. The colleges are cheaper and more practical; LSMU and Vilnius University degrees take four years and lead more easily to a master's. Occupational therapy and health psychology are also offered at LSMU, and medical laboratory biology at master's level.
Biotechnology and life sciences
Vilnius University is the strongest choice for molecular biology, biotechnology and bioinformatics, with research institutes in Vilnius's Saulėtekis science valley. KTU teaches industrial biotechnology, VMU biotechnology and molecular biology, and Klaipėda University a joint master's in marine biotechnology.
Entry for Indian students
Class 12 with biology and chemistry, usually 60% or more, is the basis for all health programmes. Medicine also needs NEET qualification and NEET 650+ or the entrance test. For a master's in public health or biotechnology, a related Indian bachelor's (B.Sc., B.Pharm, BPT, BDS or MBBS) is accepted.
Recognition and jobs
Health professions are regulated everywhere. In Lithuania you need a licence and Lithuanian to treat patients. In India, nursing, physiotherapy and pharmacy have their own councils with rules for foreign degrees; medicine falls under the NMC. Check the Indian rules for your profession before you enrol. Biotechnology graduates have openings in Lithuania's life-science industry, mostly in Vilnius.
