Universities and colleges

Where students live

University dorms are mostly in Saulėtekis (Vilnius University and VILNIUS TECH) and near MRU in the north of the city; rooms cost ₹7,440–29,800 (€70–280) a month. Private students rent in Naujamiestis, Žirmūnai or Antakalnis; co-living buildings for students charge ₹21,300–69,100 (€200–650). Start looking in July for September.

Getting around

Buses and trolleybuses cover the city; a student monthly pass costs about ₹810 (€7.60), 80% off the full ₹4,040 (€38) fare. The Old Town is compact and walkable. Vilnius airport is 15–20 minutes from the centre by train or bus.

Indian community and food

Many of the 7,400 Indian citizens with Lithuanian residence permits (September 2026) live in Vilnius, a large part of them students and IT workers. Indian student groups mark Diwali and Holi. Indian groceries can be found in a few international shops and online. See Indian community.

Jobs

Most of Lithuania's international employers are in Vilnius: software and fintech companies, shared-service centres, logistics and retail. For part-time work rules, see work while studying.

Climate

January averages about −3 °C, July 17–19 °C. Winters are dark and snowy; summers are long and light.
