Indian Food in Lithuania: Restaurants in Vilnius and Kaunas, Groceries and Vegetarian Living

You will not find Indian food on every corner in Lithuania, but Vilnius and Kaunas have several Indian restaurants, and supermarkets sell the basics for home cooking. Most Indian students cook together in dorm kitchens, which is also the cheapest way to eat.

Indian restaurants

  • Vilnius: Sue's Indian Raja (near Gediminas Avenue), Gaspar's (Pylimo g. 23, Goan chef, listed in the Michelin Guide) and Kebab N Curry (Juozapavičiaus g. 4).
  • Kaunas: Moksha (Vasario 16-osios g. 6) and Masalaciti in the Old Town.

Food delivery apps add more Indian and South Asian options in both cities. Klaipėda and Šiauliai have very few.

Cooking at home

Rice, flour, lentils, chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, yoghurt and chicken are cheap at Maxima, Iki, Rimi and Lidl. Basmati rice, atta and specific dals are easier to find in international shops. A pressure cooker is worth bringing.

What to bring from India

Spices and masalas for the first months, pickles in sealed packs, and any special ingredients you cannot do without. Check customs rules for food you carry into the EU; meat and dairy products from outside the EU are not allowed.
