Lithuania Residence Permit Refused? The Five Reasons Indian Applications Fail and How to Avoid Them

Lithuania tightened its checks on international students in 2025 after finding students admitted without adequate English and students with no credits after a year. For Indian applicants this means the permit is no longer a formality. Most refusals come down to five things you can control.

The five reasons

  1. The course does not follow from your background. A sudden switch of field without a reason raises doubts about your purpose.
  2. English that does not match the certificate. If you cannot follow a simple conversation, the score on paper does not help.
  3. Funds that appear overnight. Large deposits just before the statement, or sponsors with no clear link to you.
  4. Incomplete documents. Missing apostille on the police certificate, incomplete translations.
  5. Signs that work is the real aim. Previous work-visa refusals or a study plan that reads like a job plan.

How to prepare

  • Choose a programme that fits your previous studies and explain the link in your own words.
  • Practise speaking English; many universities interview online, and some refunds depend on a fair process.
  • Keep the required ₹9.3 lakh (€8,715) in your or a parent's account for several months, with clear records.
  • Start the police certificate and apostille early.

The detailed rules, including why permits are revoked after arrival, are on refusals and revocations.

Lithuania residence permit refusal: Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reapply after a refusal?
Yes. Fix the reason given in the decision first; a repeat application with the same weaknesses is likely to fail again. You can also appeal the decision within the deadline stated in it.
