For 2019 to 2024, NBEMS publishes one annual figure combining the June and December sessions. The 2025 report is the first to split them. Reports before 2015 were not included in our count.
Why a percentage misleads here
A pass rate means something when hundreds of graduates sit the exam, as with Russia, Kazakhstan or Georgia. With one to five candidates a year, a single student changes the result by 20 to 100 percentage points. In 2019 the "pass rate" for Lithuania was 100%; in 2020 it was 0%. Neither says anything about the quality of teaching at LSMU.
There is also a selection effect. FMGE is taken by graduates who want to practise in India. Graduates of EU medical schools often stay in Europe for residency, and they do not appear in these tables at all.
Lithuania next to Poland and Bulgaria
For comparison, the 2025 NBEMS country tables show:
- Lithuania: 3 appeared and 1 passed in June 2025; 1 appeared, 0 passed in December 2025.
- Poland: 3 appeared, 2 passed in June 2025; 15 appeared, 9 passed in December 2025.
- Bulgaria: 39 appeared, 13 passed in June 2025; 34 appeared, 8 passed in December 2025.
All three countries send few graduates to FMGE compared with the main MBBS destinations. Their numbers are too small to rank countries.
What to look at instead
- NMC compliance: does the programme meet every condition of the 2021 regulations? See the MBBS in Lithuania guide.
- Clinical training: how many hours of patient contact, in which hospitals, from which year.
- Your own preparation: FMGE (and later NExT) tests the Indian syllabus. Graduates of EU programmes usually need dedicated preparation, often online, in the final years.
- Your plan: if you want to stay in the EU, the Lithuanian degree and the language matter more than FMGE.
If anyone quotes you a pass rate for Vilnius University, ask for the source: no VU candidate appears in any NBEMS report from 2015 to 2025.
